The Metuchen Chamber of Commerce has decided to postpone the Metuchen Country Fair originally due to take place on Saturday, October 1st, due to the predictions of rain. The fair has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 15; however, this coincides with our Flamenco program at Main Library, so we may not be able to have a booth at the fair this year. We’ll determine that at our next board meeting and make an announcement here.

Front cover of Save the Children; Save Our CountryAuthor and educator, Lynne Klemens, will appear at the North Edison Library, located at 777 Grove Avenue, on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. and will sign copies of her book, Save the Children; Save Our Country (available for sale at the program), published late this spring. Her book is a parental guide for the creation of successful students.

Recognizing that American education is falling behind that of other countries, Lynne realized that this would affect our children’s futures and the nation’s economy. Her book addresses 20 basic reminders for parents on what should be encouraged at home to help children succeed.

The Friends of the Edison Library is pleased to present this free, interactive program. Lynne will share information about American education and discuss ways that you can help your children to advance in school. Parents provide a strong role in their children’s education; schools and teachers are not the most important influence. Lynne will also provide additional book titles for parents to read.

This a free program provided by the Friends of the Edison Library, and advance registration is required. To reserve a seat at this informative program, call 732-548-3045, ext. 1, go online at http://www.lmxac.org/edisonlib (clicking on Programs and Displays), or sign up at the library circulation desk. Please call the library if you must cancel after you have reserved a seat.

The Friends of the Edison Library will present Terry Antoniewicz’s program, What Secrets Are Hidden Within Your Handwriting? on Saturday, June 11th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Clara Barton Branch Library, located at 141 Hoover Avenue in the historic Clara Barton section of Edison.

Many of us are curious about what our handwriting shows about us, and Ms. Antoniewicz relates, “Many employees are using graphology today as part of job interviews….” What secrets are hidden in your handwriting?

Terry Antoniewicz, a popular and frequent program presenter at the Edison libraries and a calligrapher with over 45 years of experience, will highlight the fun aspects of your personal writing. Bring your favorite writing instrument(s) as well as samples of your preferred choices of paper (lined or unlined).

Main LibraryA while back, Edison Public Library held a very successful Family Day at the Clara Barton Branch library. Oriented towards children, but involving the entire family, there was face-painting, crafts, and other activities. Many people came who had not set foot in the library before, found out about all the different services available, and joined on the spot. Friends of the Edison Public Library were very proud to be part of that event, and we’re even more excited to be part of a new family event, this time at Main Library, 340 Plainfield Ave. Edison, NJ 08817, on Saturday, June 4, from 12 Noon to 3pm.

We will have a table at the event, so if you attend, please be sure to come by and say hello. Find out what we’ve been up to recently, and what we have lined up for the future. Sign up for membership, make a donation, or offer to volunteer. We’ll be happy to talk to you about ways you can help support the library you love.

Here are some general details about the event itself:

This special program is sponsored by Friends of the Edison Public Library and is a drop in program featuring such fun as face painting, crafts, special balloon crafts, refreshments and more. Come join us for some fun and find out what the library has to offer you and your family. Don’t have a library card yet? This is the day to come in and get your free card (remember to bring proof of residency). Books, magazines, videos, audio books and other resources are available for you to check out.

Open to all ages. No registration required – stop in anytime between 12 Noon and 3pm!
